BIOGRAPHY:

Becca Doten is a progressive, activist Democrat who has volunteered hundreds of hours on federal, state and local campaigns, been a leader and mentor to her peers, organized and activated new and returning voters and advocated on behalf of policy and legislation consistent with her Democratic ideals.

Becca first became involved in politics during the 2004 Dean for America campaign.  Governor Dean’s message inspired her to get involved in Democratic Party activism and she has stayed true to his message of outreach, inclusion and fearlessness.  While disappointed by Gov. Dean's primary loss, Becca nevertheless rededicated herself to his long term struggle for change.  She decided to switch careers to one of public service and fighting for Democratic values.

In the following year, Becca successfully ran for the Board of the Los Angeles County Young Democrats, of which she later became President, and was elected as Vice-Chair of the 47th Assembly District Committee. Becca was also elected to the California Democratic Party as a delegate in Assembly Districts 40 and 46, keeping her activism consistent as she moved around the city.  She currently serves as an Assembly District Delegate and Executive Board member for the 46th AD (Downtown Los Angeles).

Becca is an active leader in the Young Democrats.  During her two years as President, Becca helped revitalize the Los Angeles County Young Democrats by bringing in new leaders and creating an aggressive schedule of events and campaign activities.  During her tenure, she co-founded a "Women in Politics" speaker series, created a Legislative Director position on the executive board and helped coordinate a trip of 40 young Democrats to campaign for Obama in Nevada in 2008.

As the California Young Democrats' Political Director in 2008-2009, she focused on legislative advocacy and brought together young voters and activists throughout the state in support of legislation that directly impacted young people and helped coordinate “campaign invasions” to the Hannah-Beth Jackson for Senate and Charlie Brown for Congress campaigns.

In the 2006 statewide election, Becca volunteered more than 100 hours at the Democratic Party of San Fernando Valley’s headquarters and was named a “Volunteer of the Year” at their annual awards ceremony.

Becca's progressive activism continues beyond her work with the Democratic Party.  Becca is on the Advisory Board of the New Leaders Council Los Angeles Chapter, which provides in-depth trainings to prepare the next generation of progressive leaders, and is on the Board of Directors of the Brightline Defense Project, a non-profit organization that is committed to advocacy and legal work focused on issues of
poverty and environmental justice.  She has marched with Hotel Workers during a fight for living wages for hotel employees along Century Blvd. and has participated in labor actions against grocery stores and Circuit City.

Through her time as an activist, Becca has never shied away from hard work, opportunities to engage new voters or the chance to mentor emerging leaders.  Her activism and skills have been acknowledged on numerous occasions, including when she was elected as the sole delegate to the Democratic National Convention for now-President Barack Obama in the 34 Congressional District (Rep. Roybal-Allard).

A graduate of the prestigious USC School of Cinema-TV, Becca is a credited co-writer on a Lifetime TV movie.  She recently completed her first triathlon and aims to run her first half-marathon in December.
