Why I’m Running for the DNC

I

n November of 2008, men and women across the United States chose a new path for our country - one of hope for a new direction, with a desire to reinvigorate our economy, remove ourselves from a war we should never have entered into in the first place and to set a path towards an energy independent future.

But the election of President Barack Obama was just the beginning of our work. Our country remains divided -- one only needs to look at the struggle for health care reform or the “controversy” of having our President address our school children to know that there is much that needs to be done.  It is up to us to help bring the message of the Democratic Party - the message of helping all people, not just the rich, and working for peace, justice and equality - to our friends, neighbors, co-workers and peers.

I am running to become a Democratic National Committee member because I am committed to continuing to bringing the message of our Party to our communities. And I’m committed to bringing the progressive values and ideas from our local organizations and the CDP to the Democratic National Committee.

Since my first day as a volunteer, I have shown my commitment to electing strong progressives, hitting the pavement for Democratic issues and candidates, registering voters, and engaging new activists (young and old) in the Democratic Party.

As a DNC member, I will support open lines of communications where CDP members, and the greater Democratic Party community, will know what is occurring at the national Democratic Party level -- and I will bring the ideas of CDP members to the DNC.  I will also work with the DNC to find new and innovative ways to engage young people in the Democratic Party.

I have the drive, focus and passion for creating positive change in my community, working hard on behalf of the Democratic party and fighting for the change that we wish to see.

I invite you to join me in my campaign - and to share your ideas on how to strengthen the role of our DNC members and ensure open lines of communication.

My Commitments

1. • I will work with fellow DNC members on creating an effective, helpful website where I will post information on the DNC and upcoming meetings.  This website will also be a forum for CDP members to provide feedback on resolutions and agenda items being discussed at the DNC meetings.
   

2. • I will work with fellow DNC members to increase the distribution list of the newsletter created by California DNC members -- including creating an online/ emailable newsletter component. 
   

3. • I will work with my fellow DNC members to help produce this newsletter, and will post pre and post- DNC meeting notes and thoughts on my own website, to increase access to information of what is occurring at each meeting.
   

4. • I will work with the DNC to find new ways to engage and activate young people in the Democratic Party process - including working with the DNC and YDA to create talking points that are specific to young Democrats, helping us better articulate our Democratic values to our peers.
   

5. • I will attend Democratic club meetings to report on what is happening at the national DNC level and to receive feedback from our local activists.
   

6. •I will support progressive, Democratic values and work with the CDP, DNC and all Democrats to expand the party in all areas of our state and country.
